Tripadvisor Reviews

  • star ratingAmazing museum with passionate staff and gripping stories - Nothing else to say other than amazing. I came here with my Dad and the best thing about this place wasn’t even the artefacts or displays, it was the volunteers... read more running the place and the stories they were able to tell us.
The items were personal and all had stories to tell and the volunteers clearly have genuine passion and heart for every single one of them. We were there for two hours and didn’t get through the whole museum. We were too busy talking to the volunteers and hearing everything they had to say about the museum, the area and the items.
We will 100% be returning to complete the museum and if you come here please don’t be afraid to talk to the staff, you will miss a whole lot if you don’t. The stories they tell are priceless and can’t be found anywhere else.
Well worth the visit and is a must see if you are in the area

star ratingFantastic place  - Stopped by today 27/10/24 and found a real gem of a museum.
It’s a small site but has many different and interesting items on display.
All the volunteers were very... read more helpful and knowledgeable.
My grandson absolutely loved the flight simulator.
We had coffee and cakes in a very pleasant cafe where we found the staff and cakes etc excellent.
However the real highlight of the day / week / month/ year was a ride in a 1940’s Jeep! Sorry I didn’t get the guys name but he was very knowledgeable and this kind gesture really made our day, thank you so much.

  • star ratingA well staffed and run museum  - My wife and I recently visited Bottisham Airfield Museum, having spent some two hours looking around the museum at the RAFand USAF displays which were brilliantly layed out with some... read more wonderful information. The museum also has a well stocked coffee shop with some wonderful cakes, also on display was a full sized P51 Mustang which gave credit to the museum.
On our visit we were also given the opportunity to take a ride in a Willys Jeep around the area such a brilliant experience.
The museum is well staffed with volunteers a credit in a well run venue. We will be returning again shortly.

star ratingAn impressive little museum - There are now quite a few museums at former WW2 airfields across East Anglia. Most are well worth a visit, but this one is exceptionally professionally set out and displayed.... read more /> It also includes an impressive range of artefacts - everything from the uniforms of those who served at Bottisham and fragments of crashed aircraft from the base through documentary records of POWs to a replica P-51D in its own hangar. All of this is manned by enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff who are happy to talk about Bottisham's history.
Other reviewers talk about it being small. It's obviously not comparable in any way to the IWM at Duxford, for example, but I wouldn't over-emphasis it being small - there are multiple buildings, all packed with displays. Allow a good couple of hours if you want to have any chance of taking it all in.
And don't miss the Flying Tractor Café; it's fantastic value, and also (at least on the day of my visit) offered the most friendly welcome of any café I can remember visiting (and given that I take my elderly parents out for a drive and a café stop every week - this being one such - you can trust me when I say that I'm a connoisseur!). Not only that, but it has its own little library, so you can have a read while you eat.
I loved this place - it's a real gem, and certainly not as well known as it deserves to be.
