As the curtains rises on the 2024 season, visitors to our museum are in for a treat as we unveil our most extensive makeover to date.
P51 Mustang experience
One of the standout transformations lies within our hangar, where we’ve re-imagined the space to offer a thrilling P51 Mustang experience. Recognizing the vulnerability of this iconic aircraft to weather damage, we’ve brought it indoors for more extensive viewing. The P51 Mustang experience narrates the gripping tale of this formidable fighter aircraft, a true game-changer during World War II. Among the highlights are brand new exhibits featuring a crash-damaged Packard Merlin engine alongside a cutting-edge 3D-printed rendition. Complementing these marvels are an array of rare Mustang relics, each with its own tale to tell.
Communications room
Inside the museum, another captivating addition awaits as we have transformed the room adjacent to the CO’s office into a communications and operations hub, reminiscent of its wartime role. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in the story of Harold Salzman, whose typewritten orders played a pivotal role in the success of D-Day. On the other side of the room, original radio gear stands as a testament to the vital communication channels that connected Mustang fighters during the frenetic days surrounding D-Day.
But the changes don’t stop there. Our USAAF and Home Guard/Civil Defense Room has undergone a significant changes, promising a fresh perspective on these crucial aspects of wartime history. Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or a casual observer, we invite you to explore these revamped spaces and delve deeper into the rich tapestry of our past.
The Flying Tractor Café
Also new for 2024 is the trial of the Flying Tractor Cafe at 9am on Sunday mornings with the museum opening at it’s usual time of 10:30am.
