Progress on the Bottisham P51 Mustang 1

Considerable progress has been made on our P-51 Mustang. Our talented painter, Graham Buchanan is doing a superb job of re-creating Lou IV/Athelene.

We have chosen the colour scheme of Col. Jack Christian, the commanding officer of the 361st Fighter Group at Bottisham. Jack was KIA on August 12th 1944 whilst flying from Bottisham and we hope our Mustang will be a fitting tribute to his memory.

We have acquired wheels and undercarriage legs and hope to fit them soon so that we roll out the Mustang onto the spot where Jack’s original once sat.

The unveiling of the Mustang is scheduled for June 18/19 2022 at our Bottisham at war event.

My wife and I made a recent trip regarding the Bottisham Airfield Museum, The museum has some wonderful set out displays from RAF and USAF period including a full sized P51 Mustang. We were given an offer to take a ride in a willys jeep, a fantastic ride around the area. The museum includes a well stocked coffee shop with some wonderful cakes. The staff were very friendly and helpful, this museum is well worth a visit .
